This year DNSBus celebrated Mandela Day at Dimphonyana tsa Lapeng, meaning " Little Gifts of Home", an orphanage in Olievenhoutbosch, Centurion that was founded in 2001 by Mam' Asnath Teffo. The DNSBus team delivered groceries and lunch for the children whilst spending their 67 minutes playing and getting to know the children and staff.
The Centre is mainly focused on the welfare and development of underprivileged women, youth and children in local communities and has an on-site pre-school where 35 children are home schooled, including the 7 Children that stay full-time in the home. Mam' Asnath was inspired to open up the centre after she saw so many women and children suffering through abuse, lack of education and poverty in the local community areas and wanted them to have a safe place to go to, where they could get the help they needed as well as an education for the children.
It was extremely heart-warming to see the children happy and smiling, and so appreciative of even the smallest effort, it goes to show that little things in life do matter. Children are our greatest treasure, we should not wait for Mandela Day to show selflessness, compassion and love for others, they should be celebrated everyday. Volunteering our time and seeing the pure gratification in both the children their guardians was an experience that will forever remain in our hearts.
