Tribute to Bill Manning - A Friend, a Colleague and a true DNS Hero

Four Candles tribute to the legendary Ronnie Corbett - YouTube
We are deeply saddened to hear of the passing of Bill Manning. He was one of the Internet’s brilliantly unique and colourful personalities who many of us knew personally. The current Domain Name community in Africa owes a lot to his unwavering and sometimes hidden efforts in the industry. Bill fought for the fundamental principles of everyone on the Internet in ways that few people can appreciate.

‘Bill was responsible for my first personal DNSSEC training in Shanghai in 2002. He then was instrumental in setting up a DNS training program, along with Johan Stenstam. Hundreds of Africans owe their DNS training to this program. He became a friend, mentor and confidant. I'm pretty sure I can think of only one person with a similar eclectic music collection. His reach and effect was enormous and, I for one, am going to have a huge Manning sized hole in my life.

Condolences all around and many thanks to his family for lending him to us on all those occasions’ - Calvin Browne

He will be fondly remembered for all his contributions to the progress of the Internet along with his extensive wisdom in all capacities, his unbridled passion for his work and his dry sense of humour that brought joy and laughter to people all around the world. His varied taste in music was a defining trait, and he probably attended more Johnny Clegg concerts than the average South African.

Our sincerest condolences and heartfelt sympathies go out to his family and friends who walked with him on this journey. Thank you Bill for everything you gave to this world.

May you rest in the Peace you so richly deserve.
